Monday - The Dog
Apr. 10th, 2006 03:32 pmToday on the drive into work, I was sitting at the stop light (yes, that stoplight) looking at the giant Ferris Wheel and The Carney who operates it. We haven't had much to so with each other lately, the Carney and I. When we catch each other's eye, we wave at each other, but that's about it. There really hasn't been much to report and no one in my life has gotten off of the ride lately, or seems about ready to.
He had a dog with him today. I don't think I've ever seen him with a dog, though I assume the ride that dogs ride on has to stop just like ours does. The dog was a mutt of the variety I've heard called a "Pound Shepherd," having German Shepherd markings mixed with characteristics from two or three other breeds. It wore no collar that I could see, meaning that The Angel of Death may be an irresponsible pet owner, but I'm not going to be the one to tell him so. The dog sat at The Carney's feet and barked at traffic, looking up at The Carney for approval and wagging his tail when The Carney bent to scratch his ears.
The Carney smiled and winked at me, as he so often does. I gave him a slow smile back, always greeting him with trepidation since I don't want to seem too eager for his company. The Ferris Wheel was turning slowly, it's top reaching so far into the sky that I have to tilt my head all the way back if I want to see it. I caught my breath when I saw the dog run toward it and jump into one of it's cars as it passed in it's arch just above the earth. I was impressed that he made it and settled into the empty car and put his paws up over the edge. I saw his tongue hanging out in a dog smile, pleased with the success of his jump. He resumed barking at the traffic as the ride took him up toward the sky.
It was the first time I've ever seen anyone one or anything get on the ride instead of just getting off. I wondered what the implications of that are as the light turned green and I drove away.

Date: 2006-04-10 10:57 pm (UTC)I quit writing for a long time, but when I got pregnant a couple of years ago the muse started to whisper to me again. I think it was caused by the rush of hormones in my body, or maybe it had to with the fact I was engaging in the ultimate act of creation at that point. Still, it came as a complete shock since I though we had quit talking years before. Now she won't shut up, so I'm trying to figure out what to do with her these days... ;D

Date: 2006-04-11 04:15 pm (UTC)I'm sorry I didn't say hello last night...you must have wondered "who is this stranger?" :D
I added you *riiiight* before I called it a night, and was too sleepy to write you a note - sorry about that.
I noticed your post on the add-me board (from back in December, I think) and thought you just seem like a really neat person. I'm glad that you added me back, and look forward to getting to know you.
Hope you're having a great week. :)
