Today on the drive into work, I was thinking about how all of the drivers on the road could be divided into four categories, if one is the type to divide people into categories:

1) People who subtract 5 miles per hour from the speed limit,
2) People who drive exactly the speed limit
3) People who add 5 miles per hour to the speed limit (controlled speeders)
4) People who drive as fast as they can, no matter what the speed limit is (uncontrolled speeders).

The last three groups don't like to share the road with the first group, and wish they would stay the heck off of the road during rush hour since they aren't in any rush.

Type 1 and 2 drivers are afraid of people in group 4 and don't like driving anywhere near them. They are irritate by type 3 drivers, like myself, and think we should just leave the house earlier.

Type 3 drivers like the people in group 4 because they distract the police for us and lessen the chances of us getting a ticket. Why pull over a type 3 when a fat juicy type 4 is always weaving in and out of traffic just around the bend? With a type 3, the cop gets to write a $40 ticket, unless our stickers are out of date. With a type 4, it's at least $200 for the city coffers.

I have also found that the more late I am running, the more likely the road is to be full of type 1 drivers. I wonder why? I probably should leave the house earlier, indeed.

I'm a little bit in between 3 and 4...I drive like 10-15 miles over the speed limit if I'm in a very big hurry. But I won't speed at all if it's raining, snowing, foggy, or dark.

Then the other morning when my boyfriend was driving us home, I was alarmed to see that the speedometer read like 90 mph in a 65 zone! Eek! I told him to SLOW DOWN. It was raining!!! And this is the same guy who gets safety awards for trucking. I think he just gets so excited to be in a car from driving that slow truck that he goes wild.

I get behind type 1 drivers almost every morning before work. I don't want to ride on their tail, but I don't like to crawl at 35 mph either!

I try to keep it under 10 over, because the please tend to let you slide. Most of my tickets have been for going 10 or 11 over. Thank God for DefensiveDriving.com.

Then there are those of us type 5 drivers. People who don't own cars/trucks that are capable of doing much over the speed limit.

I used to own a Ford with the CV joints going out on it that made me a type 1 driver by default, much to my chagrin.

It died in a horrible wreck, and the insurance settlement was a down payment on a car I could speed in. :D

The last car I could speed in was a rental, and I talked my way out of a ticket from an Atlanta cop. I'm not sure how, I was doing 95 in a 45 zone through the middle of downtown at 1 in the morning, with NIN blasting from the car. I think it was the suit and tie that threw him off. That and the Texas drivers license. Its like he'd never seen an out of state license in his life.

I am so type four. And to tell you the truth I dont mind being the reason type three's get away with breaking the same law. I suppose it is a nessacary evil. My biggest pet peeve would be the ones who go exactly the speed limit.

I thank heaven for your type every day. We type 3's should send you a Thank You card for all of your service.

I can handle the 1 and 2s, provided they aren't blocking all of the lanes and I can go around them.

When I'm on the road, the first thing I look for is my Type 4 scapegoat.

Real Texans don't let anyone tell them how fast to drive... :)

I tend to divide other drivers into two groups; the ones going slower than me are "grandmas," the ones going faster than me are "testosterone driven war pig maniacs."

I used to be a Type 3, but graduated to 4 over the past few years, when I moved to KY and could get away with it ;) Thing is, I'm usually not even the fastest one out there!

My friends and I used to have a joke about it: we'd lie in wait until someone passed us. "Shields raised, captain!" we would say, and then draft from a safe inconspicuous distance. Yeah, we were dorks.

I hate type 1's on two-lane roads. And I can resepct the 2's unless they're all self-righteous about it.

I have also found that the more late I am running, the more likely the road is to be full of type 1 drivers.

I have that same problem but, ironically, when I leave the house early, the road is clear and I get to work way too early for my liking...
