Monday - Wreaths

Today on the drive into work, I noticed Christmas wreaths were everywhere.  There was one of the grill of the Metro bus I passed, and on the grills of the SUVs that sat next to me at each stoplight.  There was even a very spiffy little wreath on the grill of the BMW parked next to me in the parking garage. 

When I passed by the Ferris Wheel, the Angel of Death was holding a Christmas wreath in his hands, looking at it the way you look at a sweater that you pull out of a gift box on Christmas morning, when you are torn between saying "Thank you!" and asking, "Do you still have the receipt for this?"

Smoke curled up from end of his cigarette as he held the wreath in his callused hands and regarded it.  Finally, he cracked a half smile and draped the wreath haphazardly on one of the wooden posts next to the exit to the ride he operates.  Then, he took a drag on his cigarette and leaned his head back to blow a wreath of his own - a smoke ring rose from his lips into the cold air, dissipating into a haze high above his face.

wow. thats a great icon. did you see that halloween news story that this year some woman hung herself from a tree in a busy place and everyone thought it was a halloween prop?
