"Great, did you see that the unemployment rate is over 10%? If you add in the people who've given up looking and the ones who've taken jobs at Starbucks, it's 17%."

"I'm sorry, hon."

"I've sent out almost 30 resumes! The response is kind of underwhelming. Listen: do you hear the silence? That's my cell phone not ringing with job offers."

"Keep plugging away, honey. Something will come up."

"Ha. I guess there's always Starbucks. Unfortunately, I don't even think that would cover childcare."

"Hey, look at the bright side: at least you'd be working with people your own age with college degrees."

He's not wrong.

I've heard that Starbucks actually has great benefits.

Benefits I have through my husband's job. It's money I need.

Come to nodak. The weather sucks, but the economy is booming.

Jeff still has his job down here and the benefits to go with it. I could move up there, but 1) I would miss him and 2) having lived in Houston all my life, I do declare that your winters would probably do me in. Keep in mind that I consider 40 degrees F to be "really cold" and anything much south of that to be downright intolerable.

Yeah.
We came here from Albuquerque. The weather was a big problem for us.
It still is.
My trade-off for staying is the difference in the crime rate between there and here.

Look at me doing this for the last 1 1/2 years, with only 3 job interviews.... and not getting in at all. UGH! That's why i am doing more volunteer work to see if it helps build my resume in my area of expertise.

Looking for work is work unto itself. I'm having a what do I want to do with the rest of my life sort of crisis. I'm hoping the answer occurs to me soon.

I'm about to start looking in a lot of different directions. I've interview with 2 companies, and both of them said that for the (rather low-paying) jobs they posted on Craig's List, they got over 200 resumes in 2 days. I find that amazing.

Thanks! Me, too. It looks like I'm about to have to start getting creative and looking at other avenues. I just bought a book called The Girl's Guide to Starting Your Own Buisiness. We'll see how it goes.

What a sad state our economy's in...

Indeed. I don't care what they say about the economy in Washington D.C.: if it's jobless, I don't think it counts as a recovery.

Good luck to you, too. In the meanwhile, I'll keep sending out résumés and buying lotto tickets. I figure one of them has to pay off eventually. :)
