Thursday - The Radio
Jun. 23rd, 2005 10:25 amToday on my drive into to work, I noticed that all of the other drivers were singing along to the same song that I was - "Hotel California."
Snopes.com confirms that this song is not about Devil Worship, as some very literal minded fools I have debated with have claimed. I would like to have a bumper sticker that reads "Snopes debunks it. I believe them. That settles it."
When I glanced over at the ferris wheel, the Carney was also singing along to the song. I noticed that he has a little radio balanced on the gate to the ride. The little radio is black, circa 1975. A small black cord hangs loops off of the side of it, for carrying purposes, I suppose. The Carney mouthed the words "They stab it with their steely knives / But they just can't kill the beast," with his cigarette still clenched tight within his teeth.
He enunciated each syllable just so - even if i had not had my own radio on, I would have known what he was saying. I imagine this is hard to do with a cigarette clenched in your teeth, but he has had years of practice.
More disturbing, I now know what radio station the Grim Reaper listens to.
