Today at the stop light, all of the other drivers were reading the newspaper. This made me anxious, as I am one of those people who likes to hit the gas as soon as the light turns green (I floor it when the light turns yellow).

I tried to look through their windows to see what sections they were reading, but had little luck thanks to the privacy tint that most cars come with these days. I tried to think back to my own morning paper to see if I could remember anything particularly interesting happening, but as far as I could remember there was nothing. Not to mention, most people these days don't read the paper anymore for their news. They like their news in sound bites from Fox (As Fair and Balanced as you can be provided that you only care about what's happening from a Social Conservative viewpoint). Newspapers require actively reading, thinking and processing the information, which is work. No one likes to work. Besides, infotainment is more fun than actually being up to date on current events. Genocide in Africa? France rejects EU constitution? Boooorrring! Michael Jackson trial? Tell me more!

Then, when the light changed, one of the drivers tossed his paper out of the window and it landed on my windshield. Immediately, it all made sense.

It was the want ads. Of course.

I take my news through Yahoo! It seems to have a good balance of left-right-truth-sensationalism. And I don't have to read through anything that doesn't interest me. Point. Click. Read.

But until I can afford a laptop, I can't tuck MSN or Yahoo under my arm and take it in the bathroom with me.
