I took my 6-year-old son to see the animated film Rio last weekend. There was one line in the movie that made me laugh to the point that I almost fell out of my seat, but it didn’t strike the rest of the audience as all that funny. When I realized I was the only one laughing, I tried to keep quiet, but my shoulders still shook with silent laughter as I sank down in my seat with my hand clasped tightly over my mouth so that no sound would escape.

Today on my drive into work, I was thinking about the movie Jeff and I saw on Sunday night, and how I shouldn't have bought a soda before I went into it. At the very least, I shouldn't have drank the entire soda before the movie was half over. I knew better; I have a small bladder, so drinking anything before a movie will inevitably lead to me missing part of it to run to the restroom. However, I really enjoyed this film and there wasn't any part of it that I was willing to miss. I have never enjoyed a movie this much, yet at the same been so miserable for so much of the time I watched it.

Watching a good movie can be ecstasy, but it's agony if you have to pee... )

Today on the drive into work, I was thinking about the fact that my husband and I went out and saw a movie last night, in an actual cinema. I have not been to a movie since I was pregnant; this is the longest I have ever gone without going to the movies. Two things made it possible. The first was that for the first time since I can remember, Jeff's schedule allows him a day off on a weekend. The second was my father's offer last week to babysit.
